My Background, experience and training - Dogs and other animals
For me it all began a long time ago. My family were farmers and I loved animals. So, a bit longer ago than I care to admit, I went off to Leeds University to study Animal Nutrition and Physiology. From there I went to the University of Bristol Vet School (Department of Anatomy) where I continued my studies and also did quite a lot of teaching which I thoroughly enjoyed. Looking back I think I learnt as much about teaching as my students did about anatomy.
Later, I worked as a commercial animal nutritionist based in North Yorkshire, followed by some years back in academia at the University of Nottingham. That was followed by work at VetUK, during which time I become the company contact for training and behaviour related enquires. This lead me to start studying dog behaviour and training, for work and also for my own interest.
Fast forward a few years and I decided to work full time with animals. Starting out helping people with dog training on a casual basis through to studying for formal qualifications (OCN recognised) in dog training and behaviour and running classes and 1-2-1 consultations as well as the PAWS certification for Animal Assisted Interventions.
I have taken a number of courses, regularly attend webinars and read lots as I believe it is important that I can teach and interact with clients and also that my knowledge of how dogs learn is up to date. The world of canine and animal psychology is changing at a tremendous rate right now and I feel it is my duty to keep up with these changes in order to offer the best possible training and outcomes to my clients - both two and four legged.
And just in case you were wondering, I am fully insured and have enhanced DBS checks.
